How to Play Texas Hold'em Poker
What Is Texas Hold 'em Poker?
You may use any five of the seven available cards (your two hole cards and the five community cards) to create the best possible poker hand and try to beat the dealer.
In addition, the Bonus bet awards bonus payouts based solely on the value of your two hole cards, without regard to beating the dealer.
As in most online poker games, you have no control over the deal of the cards, but you do have control over your betting behavior. A good Texas Hold'em strategy will help you keep your losing bets small and your winning bets big so you can come out ahead over the long run of your online casino gambling.
Playing Texas Hold'em Poker Online
The Ante
You start your online Texas Hold'em game by placing an Ante bet, also known as the Blind bet. You do this by selecting your coin size and then clicking on the Ante circle on the virtual poker table.
After you have placed your Ante bet, you click the Deal button. You will receive your two hole cards face up, and the dealer will receive his two hole cards face down.
The Flop
After examining your hole cards, you must choose to Raise or to Fold. If you Fold, the game is over and you lose your Ante bet. If you raise, a second bet — called the Flop and equal to twice the amount of your Ante — is automatically placed in the Flop circle on the virtual poker table. The first three community cards are then dealt, face up, to the center of the table.
The Turn
After examining the three Flop cards, you have another choice to make: Call or Check. If you Call, a third bet — called the Turn and equal to your Ante bet — is placed on the table. If you Check, no additional bet is placed, but you are still alive and your Ante and Flop bets remain on the table. The poker game continues and a fourth community card is dealt to the center.
The River
Now that you have seen four community cards, you are again given a choice of Call or Check. If you Call, an additional bet — called the River and equal to your Ante bet — is placed on the table. If you Check, your bet level remains as it was and you are still in the game. The fifth and final community card is then dealt out.
The Decision
After the final community card has been dealt, the dealer turns over his hole cards, the hands are compared, and a winner is declared.
Winning at Texas Hold'em Poker
When you win at Texas Hold'em online, you receive a 1-to-1 payout on your Flop, Turn, and River bets. If you win with a straight or better, you also receive a 1-to-1 payout on your Ante bet; otherwise, the Ante bet is a "push" and is returned to you.
The Online Texas Hold 'em Bonus Bet
The Bonus bet is determined solely by the strength of your two hole cards. It has nothing to do with beating the dealer. Bonus jackpots are awarded if your hole cards form a pair or a high-card combination.
The Bonus jackpots for pairs are:
- 2s through 10s: 3 to 1
- Jacks, Queens, or Kings: 10 to 1
- Aces: 30 to 1
- Aces, when the dealer also has a pair of Aces: 1,000 to 1
The Bonus jackpots for high-card combinations are:
- Ace/Jack or Ace/Queen of different suits: 5 to 1
- Ace/King of different suits: 15 to 1
- Ace/Jack or Ace/Queen of the same suit: 20 to 1
- Ace/King of the same suit: 25 to 1
