When one thinks of Disney, they generally think of Mickey Mouse, his dog Pluto, and a few other iconic characters. Or, perhaps the younger folk tend to think of something like Frozen. What they don’t think of is forms of sport. Or at least, they wont be thinking of sport until the ambitious new project opens at Disneyland.
That ambitious new project is enormous on many levels, so much so that even trying to wrap ones head around just how big the project will be is difficult. But to say that the project will occupy 300,000 square feet is at least a start. That’s a 300,000 square foot area that will be dedicated entirely to sports, and sports related activities.
Let’s take a closer look at what may well be the biggest endeavour from Disney yet.
ESPN Wide World Of Sports
The incredible venture is known as the ESPN Wide World of Sports, and is part of an even larger project, known as the Disney World Resort. The Wide World of Sports section is focused only, of course, on sports related entertainment, while the rest of the park contains attractions like water parks and theme rides.
But what exactly will a person find in the Disney Wide World of Sports? The answer is that virtually every sport conceivable will be offered. That is to say, there will be 70 different sports on offer to visitors. Your average person may struggle to even think of 70 different sports, but needless to say this number is correct.
As far as the more popular sports are concerned, a visitor can expect to find a 500 seat ballpark, sixteen softball fields, eighteen various multi-purpose outdoor fields, ten tennis courts, and three indoor arenas. Excessive? Perhaps a little. But then again, keep in mind that the resort has to accommodate a few thousand visitors daily.
But no resort would be complete without a little entertainment for the adults. And as far as the Wide World of Sports goes, this comes in the form of a casino that looks alarmingly like a fairy tale castle. Referred to as the Excalibur, the casino will cater to the adults that have undoubtedly brought their children for some sports related entertainment.
The casino will have all the expected games, including slots, Roulette, Poker, Blackjack, and much more. The drawing card of the casino will be its design, which fits perfectly into the fairy tale worlds one comes to expect from Disney.
Good Healthy Fun
Any way you look at it, the ESPN Wide World of Sports is something that most will agree is a good outing for families. With the whole park designed to be appealing to children in design, and likewise offering a healthy form of entertainment, what isn’t there to love? In fact, it can only be assumed that many parents will be lining up for this smart alternative to less healthy forms of entertainment for children.
Keep in mind though that the Wide World of Sports is part of a much bigger park. There is accommodation available for tens of thousands of guests, and the water parks and other amusement areas are in easy travelling distance. This means, of course, that a family could experience everything from water slides to softball in a single holiday, without ever having to leave a single amusement park. And, best of all, one can only imagine that a life size Mickey Mouse can be found with just a minor amount of searching.
