Imagine watching a professional sport, say football, and really getting into the tense, pulse pounding experience. But, as a star player goes in for a shot on goal, you hear the commentator calling out his name, and it happens to be Dr PeePee. You would probably think you had misheard, and perhaps put down your drink for fear you were experiencing some sort of hallucination.
Yes, the name Dr PeePee really is associated with a professional sports player, although, of course, not on the football field. Dr. PeePee is the name of a professional eSports player, and before you ask, yes, he chose the name himself. We’re not saying this name is unoriginal, but by this moniker alone he’s sure to garner solid support. Good on him!
But this is just the tip of the iceberg as far as bizarre eSport player names go. Let’s take a look at a few of the other more ridiculous names, and learn how the player’s chose them.
- Dr. PeePee
Kevin Nanney the real person behind the name Dr PeePee, and he is known for his outstanding performances in competitive Super Smash Bros. But why the name Dr PeePee? It turns out that there is a fairly logical story behind the name, although still no word on why he decided to be called it professionally, except as a bit of a laugh.
Back in school, Kevin used to take a large container of orange juice for lunch. And, on one fateful day, Kevin spilled the juice on his lap, while in a laughing frenzy with friends. Of course, it looked as if he had urinated in his pants, and the name stuck.
As far as naming oneself after male genitals goes, the online gaming scene is a hotbed. Boys will be boys, it seems, and so many online gaming lobbies are all but awash with testicle jokes from horizon to horizon. In the professional gaming scene the trend is perhaps less prevalent, unless you pay attention to, simply; Balls.
Balls is the Moniker of An Lee, a professional League of Legends player. And, once again, there is a pretty logical story behind the name. An used to troll with his friends in online games, with him calling himself Balls, and his friend calling himself BaIIs. If you didn’t catch that, the second Balls was spelt with two capital “i’s” instead of “l’s.” So yes, the joke was that there were two balls in the game. Highbrow humour for sure.

On the other end of the spectrum, Yoon-Soo Park, a DOTA 2 player, uses the name JesusStick, which is surprisingly not immediately silly. At least, not silly in the same fashion as the other names. Yoon-Soo hasn’t given many interviews, but was asked about the name, and why he chose it.
Park very simply answered that he was Christian, and loves Jesus. And that was that. Interesting. Now we wonder where the Stick bit comes in.
If you were an eSports player what moniker would you choose? It seems that there really are no limits to the weird, wacky and wonderful tags that gamers can use and that anything goes!
