The goal of the game of baccarat is to predict which of the two hands — the Player or the Banker — will have the higher point total. You are free to bet on either hand, or you could bet on a Tie.
Each of the two baccarat hands receives two cards at the outset. Occasionally, one or both may receive a third card. Whether or not to deal out a third card is determined by a rather complicated baccarat rule that, fortunately, you don't have to memorize. The dealer always knows what to do and he'll deal out the additional card when the rule tells him to.
The important thing to remember is that only the last digit counts in determining the point total. So a 6 and an 8, adding up to 14, would count as 4. And a 5, jack, and an ace would count as 6. That's why 9 is the highest possible point total for a baccarat hand.
If you bet on the Player's hand and that hand wins, you win a 1-to-1 payout on your bet.
If you bet on the Banker's hand and that hand wins, you win a 1-to-1 payout on your bet, minus a 5 percent commission. This is because, statistically speaking, the Banker's hand tends to win slightly more often than the Player's hand.
If you bet on the Player's hand or the Banker's hand and the hands tie, you get your bet back without losing anything.
If you bet on a Tie and the hands tie, you win an 8-to-1 payout. That's the biggest jackpot in online baccarat.
