In October, Google added a flurry of new hardware to their suite of super cool devices. From now on, fans of the search engine giant have yet more innovative ways to tap into tech. There are supersized, ‘always on’ smartphones; cute little wireless headphones, speakers – big and small – and a sleek, shiny and slinky version of a laptop-come-tablet.
But for me, the standout device is a gutsy little standalone camera that’s so smart, it can identify the best images and snap – just like that – no human input required!
Google’s new gear is designed to be individual or integrated into an expansive rendition of an all-encompassing technology storm. Depending on the device, you can plug and play anywhere and at any time; activate apps with a squeeze of the hand or engage Google Assistant with a quiet word or a dedicated button on a pen!
Whether your interest in technology is manifestly good or insidiously evil, you’re bound to find the new ‘Pixel’ gear cool and exciting. Let’s take a closer look at some of Google’s new toys that are built with a sleight of hand and a liberal measure of wizardry:
Pixel 2 Smartphones
Google’s standard Pixel 2 smartphone features a 5-inch AMOLED ‘always on’ display and an active edge that unleashes apps with a gentle squeeze. It’s available in kinda blue, just black and clearly white and you have a choice of 64 GB or 128 GB.
The XL version is water-resistant, super slim and has a large 6-inch Poled screen. It’s available in straight black or a black and white combo and has all the features of the standard version plus a 12.2-megapixel rear camera.
Take All Slots wherever you go…
Our mobile casino is designed for people on the move – you may not always have your laptop or PC nearby, but the chances are that your Pixel 2, or any other smartphone for that matter, will follow you wherever you go.
Google’s Pixel Buds are stylish, comfortable and easy to stash. They come in a neat little clamshell case purpose-designed for the handbag or pocket and are available in the same colour options as the Pixel 2. You can anticipate a top-notch sound performance, fast pairing via Bluetooth and a translate feature that can handle real-time translations in 40 different languages!
The Pixelbook is a laptop and tablet hybrid packed with high end features. It’s lightweight, just 10 mm thick and has a crystal clear 12.3-inch display and trendy ‘clicky’ keyboard. It’s a stylish little gadget that runs on the Chrome OS. Google has fitted its new flagship model – which boasts an impressive 128 GB of disk storage – with the latest low power Intel processor.
You’ll have access to the full gamut of Android apps and support for Pixelbook pens means you can write or draw on the display. Best of all, when you engage the button on the pen and circle something onscreen, the Google Assistant search engine springs to life. When you want to use it as a tablet instead, all you have to do is fold the display to sit flat on the keyboard!
Google has created a wonderful little piece of hardware in Google Clips. Despite its comparatively tiny size – it is only 5 cm square – the camera has the capacity to snap the photos of your dreams… without you doing very much at all.
At first glance, Google Clips is confounding as it has no display, no on or off button and no dedicated view-finder. But when you twist the lens and set it down on a flat surface, the smart little device uses Artificial Intelligence to snap moving images of scenes, people or pets it finds interesting in seven-second bursts!
